Choose the right GPA calculator

See your semester or cumulative GPA, with the grade points your school uses.

Start from what you have

A GPA: grade points times credits, divided by credits

What a GPA means, from 0.0 to 4.0

Wondering whether a 3.0 or a 3.5 GPA is good? Each GPA below has its own page: its letter, how it compares with the 3.11 national high school average, the honors and warning lines it meets, and the credits it takes to raise it.

Your university’s own GPA rules

Each university sets its grade points and decides what a W, an incomplete, pass/fail or a retake does to your GPA. These calculators open on one university’s published points, with its rules from its own catalog.

College: grades count by credit hours

The college GPA calculator weights each course by its credit hours. You can include an earlier transcript and group courses by term. To see what it takes to raise your GPA to a target, open the raise-my-GPA planner.

Use GPA credit hours from your transcript. A pass/fail course may earn credit toward graduation without belonging in the GPA total.

High school: use your school's extra points

The high school GPA calculator shows weighted and unweighted results together. Enter AP, IB and Honors bonuses only when your school awards them. For a report card with no credits or extra points, the middle school GPA calculator counts every class the same.

If you still need the grade for a course, start with the class and final grade tools. A course percentage cannot be turned into a universal GPA.

Questions about the number itself

How letters become points, plus and minus included, and why a weighted GPA can pass 4.0: the GPA scale. Whether yours is good: what counts as a good GPA. How semesters add up: cumulative GPA.

Rounding, honors lines, federal aid, medical and law school GPAs, retakes and who can see your grades: the GPA guide.

A CGPA out of 10

Indian universities and CBSE each publish their own conversion from a 10-point CGPA to a percentage. The CGPA to percentage calculator applies the one you choose and shows the others beside it; percentage to CGPA goes the other way, and SGPA to CGPA and percentage combines your semesters by their credits first.

Grades from another country

A grade from abroad means something only on its own country’s scale. The grading systems by country show each scale, its pass mark and the words on the transcript, average your courses by their credits and, where Wikipedia or an official body prints one, give that table’s US reading.

The formulas behind these numbers

A GPA, a weighted GPA, a cumulative GPA and the GPA a goal needs, each worked once with its arithmetic: the grade and GPA formula sheet, on one printable page.
