UF GPA calculator

UF’s GPA divides grade points by credits attempted: A is 4.0, A− 3.67, B+ 3.33 and so on down to E at 0. An I or NG counts as 0 points like an E, while W, H, I*, N*, U and S/U grades stay out.

UF’s points: A 4.00, A− 3.67, B+ 3.33, B 3.00 and so on.

Include your earlier GPA

Quality points are the more exact input when the displayed GPA has already been rounded. Do not include these same credits again in the course rows.

Raise my GPA: what would it take to reach a target?

These are future credits beyond the courses and earlier record entered above.

Pass/fail or a retake: what would change?

Whether a pass/fail course leaves the GPA and whether a retake replaces the old grade are your school’s rules; the table below shows UF’s.

One grade higher: which course moves your GPA most?

Each line raises one course by one grade on the grade points above and leaves the others as entered, so a course that carries more credit moves the GPA more. A course you haven’t finished can be marked “Planned” in its ⋯ menu: the GPA so far then leaves it out, and the projection counts it at the grade you chose. A grade already on your transcript changes only under your school’s retake or grade-change rules.

Course groups and equal weights

Set a course's group or term, or mark it planned, in its ⋯ menu. Groups are just your labels: they don’t apply AMCAS or other application-service GPA rules.

Import courses from a transcript or spreadsheet

Copy the courses from your unofficial transcript, degree audit or a spreadsheet and paste them here, one course per line with its grade and credits. Term headings such as “Fall 2025” keep the courses in their terms. Your grades stay in this browser.

Save my courses or compare versions

Nothing is sent to us. Untick the box to forget them.

To compare plans, save the courses as they are now as a version, change them, and save again. Versions stay in this browser until you delete them.

Open a file you saved with “Save the versions to a file”, in this browser or another. It is read in your browser and sent nowhere.

Grade points at UF

UF multiplies each course’s grade points by its credit hours, adds them up and divides by the hours that count. Enter your courses above with these points already set.

What W, pass/fail, incomplete, retakes and transfer credit do at UF

A course left out of the GPA adds no points and no hours. In the calculator, choose its code or “Not counted”; a code that counts as zero lowers the GPA like a failing grade.

How UF counts each code
CodeWhat it meansIn the UF GPA
WWithdrewLeft out of the GPA. Rule
S or USatisfactory or unsatisfactory (the S/U option)Left out of the GPA. Rule
I*Incomplete, in the term it is givenLeft out at first. Counts as 0 points if the grade has not changed after 150 days. Rule
I or NGIncomplete, or no grade reportedCounts as 0 points, like an E, until the instructor changes the grade. Rule
WFWithdrew failing (no longer given)Counts as 0 points. UF no longer gives WF; this covers WF grades from earlier years. Rule
HDeferred grade in approved sequential coursesLeft out of the GPA. Rule
Repeated courseYou took the same course againEvery recorded attempt counts in the UF GPA, though the credits are earned only once. Rule
Transfer creditGrades from another collegeGrades from other institutions are not averaged into the UF GPA. Rule

UF shows the GPA to two decimals and never rounds up: 3.248 counts as 3.24. The Dean’s List uses the same cut, so a 3.495 counts as 3.49.

UF GPA lines

These are UF’s published undergraduate lines, each with the other conditions its catalog sets. Your college or program may set its own, higher lines.

Published GPA lines at UF
GPA lineWhat it meansAlso required
4.0 in a semesterPresident’s Honor RollAt least 15 credits of graded coursework in fall or spring, or 12 in summer. S/U courses do not count toward them. Full rule
3.20 (Engineering) to 3.75 (Liberal Arts and Sciences) in a semesterDean’s List, depending on the collegeEach college sets a minimum of 12 to 15 credits, and some rule out S/U courses. Liberal Arts and Sciences needs 12 letter-graded credits and no dropped courses or incomplete grades. S/U and internship courses are left out of the Dean’s List GPA. Full rule

To see how far you are from one of them, enter it under “Compare with a GPA line” in the calculator, or as your target in the target GPA planner.

A worked example

An incomplete counts against you until it is changed. A 3-credit A and a 3-credit I: (4.0 × 3 + 0 × 3) ÷ 6 = 2.00. If the incomplete were an I* in its first term, it would stay out and the GPA would be 4.00.

The calculator gives an estimate from the grades you enter. Your official GPA is the one on your UF academic record.
