LSU’s GPA divides quality points by the semester hours attempted: A+ is 4.3, A 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3 and so on down to D− 0.7 and F 0. P, W, I and NC stay out of it, and a retaken course counts only its most recent grade, even a lower one.
LSU’s points: A+ 4.30, A 4.00, A− 3.70, B+ 3.30 and so on.
The plus/minus cutoffs Wikipedia lists for US colleges: A+ from 97%, A 93, A- 90, B+ 87, B 83, B- 80 and so on down to D- at 60. It is not universal, so use your syllabus's cutoffs when they differ.Source: Wikipedia, “Academic grading in the United States”.

Each letter starts at its lowest percentage and runs up to the next letter.
Rounding and decimal places
Follow your syllabus. A displayed percentage can round up while the unrounded score stays below a cutoff.
Only changes how results are shown. Extra places appear when rounding would push a score over a letter cutoff.
A letter typed as a score counts as the lowest percentage for that letter on this scale. Use the original percentage when you have it.
Only scales that publish GPA points can convert a percentage. Check that your school uses these same points.

Include your earlier GPA
Quality points are the more exact input when the displayed GPA has already been rounded. Do not include these same credits again in the course rows.
Raise my GPA: what would it take to reach a target?
These are future credits beyond the courses and earlier record entered above.
Pass/fail or a retake: what would change?
Whether a pass/fail course leaves the GPA and whether a retake replaces the old grade are your school’s rules; the table below shows LSU’s.
One grade higher: which course moves your GPA most?
Each line raises one course by one grade on the grade points above and leaves the others as entered, so a course that carries more credit moves the GPA more. A course you haven’t finished can be marked “Planned” in its ⋯ menu: the GPA so far then leaves it out, and the projection counts it at the grade you chose. A grade already on your transcript changes only under your school’s retake or grade-change rules.
Compare with a GPA line (dean's list, scholarship, good standing)Course groups and equal weights
Set a course's group or term, or mark it planned, in its ⋯ menu. Groups are just your labels: they don’t apply AMCAS or other application-service GPA rules.
Import courses from a transcript or spreadsheet
Copy the courses from your unofficial transcript, degree audit or a spreadsheet and paste them here, one course per line with its grade and credits. Term headings such as “Fall 2025” keep the courses in their terms. Your grades stay in this browser.

Grade points at LSU
LSU multiplies each course’s grade points by its credit hours, adds them up and divides by the hours that count. Enter your courses above with these points already set.

What W, pass/fail, incomplete, retakes and transfer credit do at LSU
A course left out of the GPA adds no points and no hours. In the calculator, choose its code or “Not counted”; a code that counts as zero lowers the GPA like a failing grade.

Code
What it means
In the LSU GPA
W
Withdrew: a course dropped within the dates in the Academic Calendar
Left out of the GPA. You can withdraw from 10 courses at most in your time at LSU, unless your dean allows more. Rule
P
Pass: a C or better in a pass-fail course, or a passed advanced-standing or proficiency exam
Left out of the GPA, but it can count as degree credit. An F in a pass-fail course counts like any other F. Choosing pass-fail needs an LSU GPA of 2.50 or better, for 12 hours at most and one course a semester. Rule
I
Incomplete, for work you couldn’t finish through circumstances beyond your control, with your dean’s office’s permission
Left out of the GPA. It turns into an F unless you remove it in your next regular semester at LSU, before the deadline for adding courses. Rule
Only the most recent grade counts in the GPA and toward your degree, even if it is lower than the one before; every attempt stays on your transcript. You can retake a course in which you earned a D+ or lower; a third attempt needs your dean’s approval, and a C− or better can’t be retaken without it. An F has to be retaken at LSU to earn credit and quality points, unless your department chair and dean agree beforehand. Latin honors still count every grade. Rule
Transfer credit
Grades from another college
LSU keeps two GPAs: the LSU GPA counts only your work at LSU, the cumulative GPA your work at every college you attended. A course you retake elsewhere and transfer back as a direct equivalent replaces the earlier attempt, like any retake. Rule
LSU states GPAs to three decimals, rounded: 3.95550 becomes 3.956 and 3.95549 becomes 3.955. The calculator shows two.
LSU GPA lines
These are LSU’s published undergraduate lines, each with the other conditions its catalog sets. Your college or program may set its own, higher lines.

What it means
Also required
Below 2.00 LSU or cumulative GPA
University Scholastic Warning, noted on your transcript
It lasts until both GPAs are back to 2.00. A 2.00 average at LSU and on your whole college record is also what you need to graduate. Full rule
Below 2.00 in a semester while on warning
University Scholastic Probation
On probation, a semester below 2.00 means being dropped from LSU. A full-time fall or spring semester at 2.50 or better can return you to warning, and retakes that bring both GPAs to 2.00 return you to good standing. Full rule
3.50 or higher in a semester, below 4.00
Dean’s List
At least 12 college-level hours at LSU that semester (9 in a summer term) and no I grades. Full rule
4.00 in a semester
President’s Honor Roll
At least 15 college-level hours at LSU that semester and no I grades. Full rule
3.70 or higher on all your college work
Latin honors: cum laude 3.70, magna cum laude 3.80, summa cum laude 3.90
LSU works out two GPAs, on all your college work and on your LSU work, counting every grade, retakes included, and uses the lower one. Full rule
To see how far you are from one of them, enter it under “Compare with a GPA line” in the calculator, or as your target in the target GPA planner.
A worked example
For Latin honors LSU counts every grade, retakes included. Four 3-hour A’s and a 3-hour C you retook for an A give a 4.00 GPA, because only the retake counts. For honors the C counts too: (4.0 × 15 + 2.0 × 3) ÷ 18 = 3.67, short of the 3.70 cum laude needs.
The calculator gives an estimate from the grades you enter. Your official GPA is the one on your LSU academic record.
For any other college, the college GPA calculator starts on the common plus/minus 4.0 points and takes your school’s own. Cumulative GPA combines terms you already have, and the GPA guide answers what a GPA means.
