Mizzou GPA calculator

Mizzou uses plus and minus grades: A+ and A are both 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ 3.3, and so on down to D− at 0.7 and F at 0. A retake replaces a C− or lower only after you file a GPA adjustment form, and S/U grades, W, incompletes and audits stay out of your GPA.

Mizzou’s points: A+ 4.00, A 4.00, A− 3.70, B+ 3.30 and so on.

Include your earlier GPA

Quality points are the more exact input when the displayed GPA has already been rounded. Do not include these same credits again in the course rows.

Raise my GPA: what would it take to reach a target?

These are future credits beyond the courses and earlier record entered above.

Pass/fail or a retake: what would change?

Whether a pass/fail course leaves the GPA and whether a retake replaces the old grade are your school’s rules; the table below shows Mizzou’s.

One grade higher: which course moves your GPA most?

Each line raises one course by one grade on the grade points above and leaves the others as entered, so a course that carries more credit moves the GPA more. A course you haven’t finished can be marked “Planned” in its ⋯ menu: the GPA so far then leaves it out, and the projection counts it at the grade you chose. A grade already on your transcript changes only under your school’s retake or grade-change rules.

Compare with a GPA line (dean's list, scholarship, good standing)
Course groups and equal weights

Set a course's group or term, or mark it planned, in its ⋯ menu. Groups are just your labels: they don’t apply AMCAS or other application-service GPA rules.

Import courses from a transcript or spreadsheet

Copy the courses from your unofficial transcript, degree audit or a spreadsheet and paste them here, one course per line with its grade and credits. Term headings such as “Fall 2025” keep the courses in their terms. Your grades stay in this browser.

Save my courses or compare versions

Nothing is sent to us. Untick the box to forget them.

To compare plans, save the courses as they are now as a version, change them, and save again. Versions stay in this browser until you delete them.

Open a file you saved with “Save the versions to a file”, in this browser or another. It is read in your browser and sent nowhere.

What W, pass/fail, incomplete, retakes and transfer credit do at the University of Missouri

A course left out of the GPA adds no points and no hours. In the calculator, choose its code or “Not counted”; a code that counts as zero lowers the GPA like a failing grade.

How the University of Missouri counts each code
CodeWhat it meansIn the University of Missouri GPA
IIncomplete: a small part of the work is left, and the work you finished is C− or betterLeft out of your GPA while it stands. A fall incomplete expires at the end of the next spring term, a spring or summer one at the end of the next fall. If it isn’t finished by then, it becomes the grade set in your incomplete contract, which can be an F. Rule
WWithdrew from a course after the last day to drop (the fifth week, or the 25th class day)Left out of your GPA. A course dropped by the deadline leaves no grade and has no effect on your GPA. Rule
S or USatisfactory/Unsatisfactory: S for a C− or better, U for a D+ or lowerLeft out of your GPA. S earns full credit; U earns none. You can take one course S/U a semester (courses taught only S/U don’t count), not in your first semester or on probation, and S grades can be at most 20 percent of your degree credits. Rule
HAudit: you take the class without credit or a gradeLeft out of your GPA. Rule
NRNot reported: no grade was recorded for the courseLeft out of your GPA until the grade comes in. After 12 months an NR changes to an F, which counts as 0. Rule
Repeated courseYou took the same course againA retake replaces an earlier C−, D+, D, D− or F in your GPA, never a C or better, and only after you file a GPA adjustment form; it isn’t automatic. The highest grade counts, only one earlier attempt can be replaced, and further attempts all count. At most 18 credit hours can be dropped from your GPA this way. The retake must be at Mizzou (the first attempt can be at any University of Missouri campus), not S/U, and a retake ending in I or W replaces nothing. It isn’t available after you graduate, and every attempt stays on your transcript. For a recalculated academic standing, file the form in the semester right after the retake, by the end of add/drop. The catalog’s own Course Repeat page still shows the earlier 15-hour limit. Rule
Transfer creditGrades from another collegeOnly University of Missouri coursework counts in your official GPA. Grades from any UM campus, D and F included, transfer with you and count. Courses from other colleges can earn credit (generally with a C or better), but their grades stay out of your GPA. Rule

The University of Missouri GPA lines

These are the University of Missouri’s published undergraduate lines, each with the other conditions its catalog sets. Your college or program may set its own, higher lines.

Published GPA lines at the University of Missouri
GPA lineWhat it meansAlso required
Below 2.0 term or cumulative GPAAcademic NoticeGood standing needs both your latest term GPA and your cumulative GPA at 2.0 or higher; a term can be a semester or a summer term. Reaching 2.0 in both returns you to good standing. Some majors set higher standards. Full rule
Below 2.0 term or cumulative GPA again, while on Academic NoticeAcademic Warning, then Academic DismissalOn Academic Warning you need a 2.0 term and cumulative GPA in your next term, or you’re dismissed. You can appeal a first dismissal to your academic unit; if it’s approved you continue on Academic Warning, and if it’s denied you sit out at least one calendar year before applying for readmission. Full rule
3.5 term GPA or higher (Arts and Science)Dean’s ListAt least 12 graded (A–F) hours that semester and a 3.0 cumulative GPA; S/U courses don’t count toward the 12. Fall and spring only. Each school and college sets its own: Business and CAFNR match Arts and Science, Engineering needs a 3.0 term GPA, Health Sciences 3.3, Journalism 3.25, and Nursing 3.25 term and cumulative. Full rule
3.600 or higher GPA of record at graduationLatin honors: cum laude 3.600–3.799, magna cum laude 3.800–3.899, summa cum laude 3.900–4.000At least 30 credit hours of MU courses; honors are set after your final semester. Taking S/U courses may affect eligibility. Full rule

To see how far you are from one of them, enter it under “Compare with a GPA line” in the calculator, or as your target in the target GPA planner.

A worked example

A retake doesn’t replace a grade until you ask. A 3-hour D retaken for a B, plus a 3-hour A: until you file the GPA adjustment form, all three grades count, (1.0 × 3 + 3.0 × 3 + 4.0 × 3) ÷ 9 = 2.67. Once the form is processed, the D drops out: (3.0 × 3 + 4.0 × 3) ÷ 6 = 3.50.

The calculator gives an estimate from the grades you enter. Your official GPA is the one on your University of Missouri academic record.
