Wake Forest GPA calculator

Wake Forest gives 4.00 points for an A, 3.67 for an A−, 3.33 B+, 3.00 B, 2.67 B−, 2.33 C+, 2.00 C, 1.67 C−, 1.33 D+, 1.00 D, 0.67 D− and 0.00 for an F, and there’s no A+. Only the F counts as zero: the Bulletin gives an I or NR no GPA impact, though either becomes an F if it isn’t resolved early in your next semester, and a pass/fail course stays out of your GPA even if you fail it. Retake a course in which you earned a C− or lower and it counts once, at the highest grade you received, unless the first grade was an irreplaceable F for an honor violation.

Wake Forest’s points: A 4.00, A− 3.67, B+ 3.33, B 3.00 and so on.

These are future credits beyond the courses and earlier record entered above.

Pass/fail or a retake: what would change?

Whether a pass/fail course leaves the GPA and whether a retake replaces the old grade are your school’s rules; the table below shows Wake Forest’s.

One grade higher: which course moves your GPA most?

Each line raises one course by one grade on the grade points above and leaves the others as entered, so a course that carries more credit moves the GPA more. A course you haven’t finished can be marked “Planned” in its ⋯ menu: the GPA so far then leaves it out, and the projection counts it at the grade you chose. A grade already on your transcript changes only under your school’s retake or grade-change rules.

Course groups and equal weights

Set a course's group or term, or mark it planned, in its ⋯ menu. Groups are just your labels: they don’t apply AMCAS or other application-service GPA rules.

Import courses from a transcript or spreadsheet

Copy the courses from your unofficial transcript, degree audit or a spreadsheet and paste them here, one course per line with its grade and credits. Term headings such as “Fall 2025” keep the courses in their terms. Your grades stay in this browser.

What W, pass/fail, incomplete, retakes and transfer credit do at Wake Forest

A course left out of the GPA adds no points and no hours. In the calculator, choose its code or “Not counted”; a code that counts as zero lowers the GPA like a failing grade.

How Wake Forest counts each code
CodeWhat it meansIn the Wake Forest GPA
FFailureCounts 0.00 points, and its hours count in your GPA. If you stop going to class without officially withdrawing or taking Continuous Enrollment Status, you get failing grades in all your current courses. An I that isn’t finished 30 days into your next semester, or an NR that isn’t replaced within 45 days, becomes an F. You can retake a failed course at Wake Forest and only the higher grade counts; if you fail a course you had already passed, you keep the hours you earned the first time. Rule
Irreplaceable FAn F given as the sanction for an honor violationCounts 0.00 like any F. It’s the presumptive sanction for academic misconduct, and it comes with a suspension too. You may retake the course, but the irreplaceable F stays in your GPA next to the new grade. A hearing panel may give a replaceable F instead, which a retake replaces in your GPA as usual. Rule
D+, D, D−Passing but unsatisfactoryWorth 1.33, 1.00 and 0.67 points, and they earn credit. Like any grade of C− or lower, they let you retake the course at Wake Forest, and then only the higher grade counts. A D or C− from another school doesn’t transfer. Rule
IIncomplete, given only when illness or another extenuating circumstance beyond your control keeps you from finishing the workThe pages disagree on what an I does to your GPA. The Bulletin’s grade-point table says an I has no GPA impact, while the Office of Academic Advising’s Incompletes page says an incomplete counts temporarily as an F in your semester and cumulative GPA until it’s changed, and the financial aid progress standard counts courses with an incomplete in its GPA on hours attempted. Whether to allow an incomplete is your instructor’s call. If you don’t finish the work within 30 days after your next semester begins, the I becomes an F automatically. For fall 2026, the Registrar’s Academic Services Calendar sets September 23 as the day to hand in your work. Rule
NRNot Reported: your instructor hadn’t reported a grade by the deadlineHas no GPA impact under the Bulletin’s table. If the NR isn’t replaced within 45 days after your next semester begins, it becomes an F. Rule
WWithdrawnDoesn’t count in your GPA, but it stays on your transcript to show you attempted the course. You can drop a full-term course by the drop deadline (fall 2026: September 29; spring 2027: February 16). From the next day until five days after interim grades are due, you can withdraw with a W: through October 27 in fall 2026 and March 19 in spring 2027. Half-term courses have their own window, through the 22nd instructional day of each half. If you stop attending without withdrawing, you get failing grades instead. Rule
PPass, in a course taken under the pass/fail optionA pass/fail course isn’t computed in your GPA whether you pass or fail, and a pass earns full credit. You can’t elect pass/fail as a first-year student, though you can take courses offered only pass/fail; after that you can elect up to 4 pass/fail hours a semester and 18 toward your degree. Courses for the core, 21st Century Stewardship, your major, minor or a certificate can’t be taken pass/fail unless they’re offered only that way, and no School of Business course can be. You need your advisor’s and the instructor’s permission. Switch to pass/fail by the drop date (fall 2026: September 29; spring 2027: February 16). The Bulletin and the Office of Academic Advising let you switch back to a letter grade until the Friday of the twelfth week; the Registrar’s Academic Services Calendar lists Monday, November 16 for fall 2026 and Friday, April 9 for spring 2027. Rule
AUAudit, entered when you’ve completed the auditAn auditor receives no credit, and non-credit work stays out of the GPA. You can’t switch between audit and credit after the first official day of classes. Audits don’t count as hours attempted for financial aid. Rule
NCNo credit, for a no-credit labNon-credit courses stay out of your GPA. Rule
Repeated courseYou took the same course againYou can repeat a Wake Forest course only at Wake Forest, and only if you earned a C− or lower; don’t ask your instructor to lower a grade so you can retake. Every grade stays on your transcript, but the course counts once for credit and once as attempted in your GPA, with the points of the highest grade you received. If you fail a course you had passed, you keep the hours you earned. The exception is an irreplaceable F for an honor violation: if your retake earns credit, both the new grade and the F count in your GPA. A replaceable F drops out once you retake the course. The financial aid progress standard counts retakes the same way. Rule
Transfer creditGrades from another collegeTransfer grades don’t count in your Wake Forest GPA, and that includes affiliate (non-Wake Forest) study abroad programs; the courses are still recorded on your transcript. Credit from Wake Forest-sponsored programs such as WFU Barcelona and London INSTEP counts as Wake Forest credit, not transfer credit. To get credit for a course elsewhere once you’re enrolled, you need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, no academic probation or suspension, and departmental approval, and only approved four-year schools qualify; entering transfer students can bring credit from accredited two-year colleges too. A course transfers only with a C or better; a C− or lower doesn’t. After you enroll, at most 30 hours from outside Wake Forest programs count toward the 120 you need, and your senior year must be in Wake Forest programs; if you transferred in, you must earn at least 60 hours in Wake Forest programs. At most 15 hours of fully online courses after you enroll count, and only 8 of those from another school. In the School of Business, at most two courses (6 hours) transfer into program requirements, from AACSB-accredited schools, and to graduate you need a 2.0 GPA on all work you attempted at other schools. Rule

The Bulletin’s honors rules say cumulative GPAs are calculated to three decimal places and truncated without rounding. So the calculator never rounds up either: it cuts the GPA to two decimals, and 3.499 shows as 3.49, not 3.50.

A worked example

At Wake Forest a retake after a C− or lower counts once, at the higher grade. Say you earn a D in a 3-credit course, an A in another 3-credit course and a B+ in a 4-credit course, and withdraw from a fourth with a W: (1 × 3 + 4 × 3 + 3.33 × 4) ÷ 10 = 28.32 ÷ 10 = 2.832, shown as 2.83, and the W doesn’t count. You retake the D course at Wake Forest and earn a B. The course now counts once, with the B: (3 × 3 + 4 × 3 + 3.33 × 4) ÷ 10 = 34.32 ÷ 10 = 3.432, shown as 3.43. If both grades counted, you’d have (1 × 3 + 3 × 3 + 4 × 3 + 3.33 × 4) ÷ 13 = 37.32 ÷ 13 ≈ 2.87. An irreplaceable F for an honor violation is the exception: it stays in your GPA next to the retake.

The calculator gives an estimate from the grades you enter. Your official GPA is the one on your Wake Forest academic record.
