UD grades on a 4.0 scale with no A+: an A is 4.0, an A− 3.6667, a B+ 3.3333 and so on down to a D at 1.0 and an F at 0.0, with no D+ or D−. An F counts 0.0, and you also get one if you stop going to a class without withdrawing, or if you don’t finish an incomplete within 30 days. Retake a UD course and only the higher grade counts in your cumulative GPA, for up to 12 retake credit hours.

Each letter starts at its lowest percentage and runs up to the next letter.
Rounding and decimal places
Follow your syllabus. A displayed percentage can round up while the unrounded score stays below a cutoff.
Only changes how results are shown. Extra places appear when rounding would push a score over a letter cutoff.
A letter typed as a score counts as the lowest percentage for that letter on this scale. Use the original percentage when you have it.
Only scales that publish GPA points can convert a percentage. Check that your school uses these same points.

Include your earlier GPA
Quality points are the more exact input when the displayed GPA has already been rounded. Do not include these same credits again in the course rows.
Raise my GPA: what would it take to reach a target?
These are future credits beyond the courses and earlier record entered above.
Pass/fail or a retake: what would change?
Whether a pass/fail course leaves the GPA and whether a retake replaces the old grade are your school’s rules; the table below shows UD’s.
One grade higher: which course moves your GPA most?
Each line raises one course by one grade on the grade points above and leaves the others as entered, so a course that carries more credit moves the GPA more. A course you haven’t finished can be marked “Planned” in its ⋯ menu: the GPA so far then leaves it out, and the projection counts it at the grade you chose. A grade already on your transcript changes only under your school’s retake or grade-change rules.
Compare with a GPA line (dean's list, scholarship, good standing)Course groups and equal weights
Set a course's group or term, or mark it planned, in its ⋯ menu. Groups are just your labels: they don’t apply AMCAS or other application-service GPA rules.
Import courses from a transcript or spreadsheet
Copy the courses from your unofficial transcript, degree audit or a spreadsheet and paste them here, one course per line with its grade and credits. Term headings such as “Fall 2025” keep the courses in their terms. Your grades stay in this browser.

Grade points at UD
UD multiplies each course’s grade points by its credit hours, adds them up and divides by the hours that count. Enter your courses above with these points already set.

What W, pass/fail, incomplete, retakes and transfer credit do at UD
A course left out of the GPA adds no points and no hours. In the calculator, choose its code or “Not counted”; a code that counts as zero lowers the GPA like a failing grade.
How UD counts each code
Code
What it means
In the UD GPA
A
Excellent, the top grade
Counts 4.0. UD’s letter grades (grading Option 1) are A, A−, B+, B, B−, C+, C, C−, D and F, so there’s no A+, and no D+ or D−. Plus and minus grades carry four-decimal points: A− 3.6667, B+ 3.3333, B− 2.6667, C+ 2.3333, C− 1.6667. Your cumulative GPA is your quality points divided by the credit hours you took under Option 1. Rule
F
Failed
Counts 0.0 quality points, with its hours, in your GPA. You also get an F if you stop going to a class without withdrawing the proper way, and those F’s always count in your cumulative GPA. An incomplete you don’t finish in time turns into an F too. A required course you fail must be retaken, preferably at the next chance; a retake at UD with a higher grade replaces the F in your cumulative GPA (see the retake rule). Rule
S or NC
Satisfactory or No Credit, grading Option 2
Neither counts in your GPA. S means C− or higher; NC means D or F. S hours count toward your total (S is also used for credit by examination). Apart from courses that must be taken S/NC, you can take at most 15 semester hours under Option 2 within the hours your degree requires. Courses for the Common Academic Program must be letter-graded. For fall 2026 the last day to change grading options is Friday, August 28. You can’t retake an Option 2 course for a letter grade, and a required course with an NC must be retaken. Rule
I
Incomplete: part of the term’s work wasn’t done for reasons beyond your control, the rest of your work is satisfactory, and your instructor recommended it with the chairperson’s approval
Left out of your GPA while it’s an I. You must finish within 30 days of the date on the grade report, or it becomes an F (an NC if you took the course S/NC), and the F counts 0.0. Rule
W
Withdrawn: you dropped the class after the no-record period
Doesn’t count in your GPA. In the first three weeks of a full term (the first eight class days of a split term) you can drop with no record; for fall 2026 that’s through Monday, September 14. From the fourth week through the fourth week after mid-term you can withdraw with a W the same way; the last day is Monday, November 9, 2026 for fall and Monday, March 29, 2027 for spring. After that, only the Late Withdrawal Committee can give you a W, and only for extenuating circumstances; late withdrawals show as W’s too. Stopping attendance doesn’t withdraw you: you get an F, and it counts. If you withdraw from UD with the Student Withdrawal/Leave Form before the W deadline, your registration is canceled without academic penalty. You can ask for a retroactive medical withdrawal up to a year after the last day of classes that term. Rule
X
Audit
No credit hours and no quality points, and it’s left out of your GPA. A course you audited can’t be retaken for credit. Rule
IP
In Progress: an approved course that hadn’t ended when the term did
Left out of your GPA until the course is done. Rule
E
Grade excluded: a notation on the lower grade of a retaken course, or on a discontinued course given an academic reprieve
The grade stays on your transcript but is left out of your cumulative GPA, and its credits count against your 12 retake credit hours. Rule
K
Credit transferred from another school
Credit with no quality points, left out of your GPA. Rule
AP or EM
Credit by exam: Advanced Placement (AP), or AP and other exams (EM)
UD credit with no quality points. EM credit is capped at 24 semester hours, not counting AP and CLEP General Examination credit. Rule
N
No grade reported by the instructor
Discontinued in August 2010. The catalog doesn’t say what it did to the GPA. Rule
Repeated course
You took the same course again
You can retake any course you took at UD, except one you took under Option 2 (S/NC), and the retake must also be at UD. The higher grade counts in your cumulative GPA; the lower one stays on your transcript marked “E” (grade excluded). The excluded course’s credits come out of an allotment of 12 retake credit hours, and once you reach 12 excluded hours, every later grade counts in your GPA. Taking a course a third time needs your dean’s approval: the lower of the first two grades is excluded, and the other grades count. If a course you got a D or F in has been discontinued, you can ask for an academic reprieve, which excludes the grade the same way and uses the same 12 hours. A course you audited can’t be retaken for credit. Graduate, law, medical and other programs may recalculate your GPA from every grade on your UD transcript, retakes included. Rule
Transfer credit
Grades from another college
Transfer credit comes in as K (credit) with no quality points, so it stays out of your UD GPA. In general, college credit earned with a C− (1.7) or higher at an accredited school transfers; a course below a C− gets no credit. You need at least 30 semester hours and half of your major’s hours at UD. Latin honors count only your UD courses and need 60 semester hours at UD, with an exception for some community college articulation agreements. A UD grade can only be replaced by retaking the course at UD. AP and exam (EM) credit carry no quality points, and EM credit tops out at 24 semester hours. For transfer and part-time students, each block of 12 semester hours counts as a term for academic standing. Rule
UD doesn’t round up your GPA, so a 3.4999 isn’t a 3.50 and doesn’t reach the 3.50 line for the Dean’s List or cum laude.

What it means
Also required
2.0 cumulative
Good academic standing; below it, academic probation
Your standing is set by your cumulative GPA at the end of each term (for part-time and transfer students, each block of 12 semester hours counts as a term). Full rule
2.0 term GPA while on probation
Continued on Probation; otherwise suspension or dismissal
In the term after you’re placed on probation you need a term GPA of at least 2.0. Meet it and your success plan, and you’re Continued on Probation until your cumulative GPA is back to 2.0. The Academic Standing page’s rules say you’re suspended if you don’t reach good standing by the end of a probationary term; its definitions list missing the minimum GPA or your success plan after a term on probation under dismissal. If you were readmitted on probation after a suspension and miss the term GPA, you’re dismissed. Full rule
Below 1.0 term GPA
Academic suspension; a second time, dismissal
This applies whatever your cumulative GPA. A first suspension lets you apply for readmission. Full rule
2.0 cumulative, in your major and in your minor
Minimum GPAs to graduate
You also need at least 120 semester hours. Full rule
3.50 term GPA on 12 or more hours
Dean’s List
Fall, spring and summer, for degree-seeking undergraduates. Full rule
3.50 term GPA on 6 to 11.5 hours
Dean’s Recognition List
Fall, spring and summer, like the Dean’s List. Full rule
3.50 / 3.70 / 3.90
Cum laude / magna cum laude / summa cum laude
Measured on your academic degree program GPA: UD courses taken under Option 1 that count toward your degree. You need at least 60 semester hours at UD, unless you transferred under a community college articulation agreement. Full rule
2.0 cumulative (2.5 preferred)
Minimum to be considered as a transfer student
Meeting 2.0 doesn’t guarantee admission; most areas of study prefer 2.5 or higher. Full rule
3.0 (business, engineering, education) or 3.2 (health sciences)
Transferring into these majors
Business also needs a college-level math class. Full rule
To see how far you are from one of them, enter it under “Compare with a GPA line” in the calculator, or as your target in the target GPA planner.
A worked example
Only the higher grade counts after a retake, and UD doesn’t round up. Say you earn an A in a 4-credit course, a B+ in a 3-credit course and a D in a 3-credit course: (4.0 × 4 + 3.3333 × 3 + 1.0 × 3) ÷ 10 = 28.9999 ÷ 10 = 2.89999, which is 2.89. You retake the D course at UD and earn a B. The B counts and the D stays on your transcript marked E: (4.0 × 4 + 3.3333 × 3 + 3.0 × 3) ÷ 10 = 34.9999 ÷ 10 = 3.49999. That’s 3.49, not 3.50, because UD doesn’t round up.
The calculator gives an estimate from the grades you enter. Your official GPA is the one on your UD academic record.
For any other college, the college GPA calculator starts on the common plus/minus 4.0 points and takes your school’s own. Cumulative GPA combines terms you already have, and the GPA guide answers what a GPA means.
