CGPA to percentage calculator

There is no single CGPA-to-percentage formula: use the one your board or university publishes. CBSE’s Class 10 rule is CGPA × 9.5, so a CGPA of 8.2 is 77.9%. Anna University multiplies by 10, VTU’s 2015 to 2018 schemes take off 0.75 first, and JNTU Hyderabad takes off 0.5.

The same CGPA gives a different percentage under each rule, which is why a form that asks for your percentage wants your own university’s conversion.

Which formula is yours?

  • CBSE Class 10 (results with a CGPA): CGPA × 9.5For CBSE Class 10 results that show a CGPA, under the grading scheme CBSE introduced in 2010. CBSE calls the result an indicative percentage, and a subject’s grade point × 9.5 gives that subject’s.
  • VTU (2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes): (CGPA − 0.75) × 10For Visvesvaraya Technological University’s 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes only.
  • Anna University (B.E./B.Tech., Regulations 2021 and 2025): CGPA × 10For B.E. and B.Tech. students of Anna University’s non-autonomous affiliated colleges under Regulations 2021 and 2025. The consolidated grade sheet prints this percentage for you.
  • JNTU Hyderabad (B.Tech. R22): (CGPA − 0.5) × 10For JNTU Hyderabad B.Tech. regular students of non-autonomous colleges under the R22 regulations (from 2022–23). The regulations write it for the final CGPA.
  • Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU): CGPA × 8.9For Savitribai Phule Pune University, from the conversion sheet on its examination website. The same sheet sets the class: 7.42 or more is first class with distinction, 6.75 first class, 6.18 higher second class, 5.62 second class.

Each formula above is quoted from the board’s or university’s own circular or regulations, linked at the foot of this page. Other calculators online give different formulas for some of these universities, so check the source before you put a percentage on a form.

If your university is not listed

Your university’s regulations, or the back of your grade card or consolidated marksheet, usually state its conversion; use that one for an application. If an employer or a university abroad asks for a percentage your marksheet does not show, ask your university’s examination section how it certifies one.

Until you find it, “My university is not listed” shows CGPA × 10 as plain arithmetic, clearly labelled, and the table shows every published rule beside it.

CBSE: why 9.5?

When CBSE introduced grades for Class 10 in 2010, its circular gave the conversion as an indicative percentage: CGPA × 9.5 for the overall result, and a subject’s grade point × 9.5 for each subject. A CGPA of 10 is therefore 95%, not 100%, and two students with the same CGPA can have had different marks.

If your marksheet shows marks rather than a CGPA, you need no conversion: add up the marks with the marks percentage calculator.

One CGPA, five percentages

A CGPA of 8.2 is 77.9% under CBSE’s rule (8.2 × 9.5), 82% under Anna University’s (8.2 × 10), 74.5% under VTU’s 2015 to 2018 schemes ((8.2 − 0.75) × 10), 77% under JNTUH’s R22 rule ((8.2 − 0.5) × 10) and 72.98% under SPPU’s sheet (8.2 × 8.9).

Going from a percentage back to a CGPA reverses the same formula: see percentage to CGPA.
