Oklahoma State grades on a plain 4-point scale: A is 4, B 3, C 2, D 1 and F 0, with no plus or minus grades and no A+. An F! (an F for an academic integrity violation) counts as an F, and so does an incomplete that turns into an F after a year. You can take a course up to four times, and only your highest grade from those four attempts counts in your GPA.
Oklahoma State’s points: A 4.00, B 3.00, C 2.00, D 1.00 and so on.
The plus/minus cutoffs Wikipedia lists for US colleges: A+ from 97%, A 93, A- 90, B+ 87, B 83, B- 80 and so on down to D- at 60. It is not universal, so use your syllabus's cutoffs when they differ.Source: Wikipedia, “Academic grading in the United States”.

Each letter starts at its lowest percentage and runs up to the next letter.
Rounding and decimal places
Follow your syllabus. A displayed percentage can round up while the unrounded score stays below a cutoff.
Only changes how results are shown. Extra places appear when rounding would push a score over a letter cutoff.
A letter typed as a score counts as the lowest percentage for that letter on this scale. Use the original percentage when you have it.
Only scales that publish GPA points can convert a percentage. Check that your school uses these same points.

Include your earlier GPA
Quality points are the more exact input when the displayed GPA has already been rounded. Do not include these same credits again in the course rows.
Raise my GPA: what would it take to reach a target?
These are future credits beyond the courses and earlier record entered above.
Pass/fail or a retake: what would change?
Whether a pass/fail course leaves the GPA and whether a retake replaces the old grade are your school’s rules; the table below shows Oklahoma State’s.
One grade higher: which course moves your GPA most?
Each line raises one course by one grade on the grade points above and leaves the others as entered, so a course that carries more credit moves the GPA more. A course you haven’t finished can be marked “Planned” in its ⋯ menu: the GPA so far then leaves it out, and the projection counts it at the grade you chose. A grade already on your transcript changes only under your school’s retake or grade-change rules.
Compare with a GPA line (dean's list, scholarship, good standing)Course groups and equal weights
Set a course's group or term, or mark it planned, in its ⋯ menu. Groups are just your labels: they don’t apply AMCAS or other application-service GPA rules.
Import courses from a transcript or spreadsheet
Copy the courses from your unofficial transcript, degree audit or a spreadsheet and paste them here, one course per line with its grade and credits. Term headings such as “Fall 2025” keep the courses in their terms. Your grades stay in this browser.

Grade points at Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State multiplies each course’s grade points by its credit hours, adds them up and divides by the hours that count. Enter your courses above with these points already set.

What W, pass/fail, incomplete, retakes and transfer credit do at Oklahoma State
A course left out of the GPA adds no points and no hours. In the calculator, choose its code or “Not counted”; a code that counts as zero lowers the GPA like a failing grade.

Code
What it means
In the Oklahoma State GPA
A
Excellent, the top grade
Counts 4. OSU has no plus or minus grades and no A+, so an A always adds 4 points per hour. Rule
F!
F shriek: you failed the course because of an academic integrity violation
Counts as an F (0) in your GPA. You can remove the “!” (but not the F) by completing an academic integrity educational program; the F! stays on your transcript for at least one semester. Rule
I
Incomplete: you finished more than half the work, averaging D or better, but were unavoidably prevented from finishing
Stays out of your GPA while it’s an I. Your instructor also submits a default grade, the grade you’d get with a zero on the missing work. You have up to one calendar year after the term to finish. If none of the work is done, the I becomes the default grade, and your GPA is recalculated with it in the original term; a default F counts as an F. You can’t repeat the course to clear an I. Rule
W
Withdrawal: you dropped the course
Doesn’t count in your GPA. In a 16-week course, dropping in the first 10 days leaves no record; weeks 3–12 give a W; in weeks 13–14 your instructor assigns a W or an F (and an F counts); in weeks 15–16 you can’t drop and get your final grade. Not attending or not paying doesn’t drop you. Rule
AW
Administrative withdrawal
Left out of your earned hours and your GPA, by the transcript legend. Rule
P or NP
Pass or No Pass
Neither counts in your GPA. Under the pass-no pass option, A, B and C become P, and D and F become NP. You can use it for at most four courses or 15 hours (whichever is greater) in your career, only after 28 earned hours, with at least a 2.50 overall GPA, and only for a general elective. Choose by the last day to add; you can’t switch back after. In a course taught only pass-fail, failing gives an F, which counts. Rule
S or U
Satisfactory (C or better) or Unsatisfactory, in developmental courses
Neither counts in your GPA, and they don’t satisfy degree requirements. Rule
CBE-P
Credit by exam or prior learning, passed at the equivalent of a C or better
Counts in attempted and earned hours but not in your GPA. Nothing is recorded if you fail the exam. Rule
PA-(grade)
A grade in a physical education activity (leisure) course, such as PA-B
Left out of your GPA, and out of your earned hours. Rule
AU
Audit
Doesn’t count in your GPA and earns no credit hours. Rule
N
Grade not reported by your instructor when grades were due
Not a grade and not in your GPA; it’s changed to the grade you earned. Rule
R or X
Course work or research still in progress
Neither counts in your GPA or earned hours until a grade replaces it. Rule
I, E or A in the R column
Repeat indicators next to a repeated course
I: this attempt counts in your GPA and earned hours (your best of the first four). E: left out of both. A: counts in your GPA but not earned hours (a fifth attempt or later). Rule
* or **
Academic reprieve (*) or academic renewal (**)
The course stays on your transcript but leaves your earned hours and overall GPA. Rule
Repeated course
You took the same course again
You can take any course up to four times, counting the first, to earn a higher grade, and only the highest grade of those four attempts counts in your GPA. Every attempt after the fourth counts too. There’s no limit on how many courses you repeat, and any first grade except an A can be replaced. Every attempt stays on your transcript, marked as in or out of your GPA. The Registrar’s policy took effect in June–July 2025. OSU’s pages differ on one point: the catalog’s GPA rule still describes the repeats it leaves out as courses with an original grade of D or F, while its forgiveness rule and the Registrar let you repeat any course. Rule
Transfer credit
Grades from another college
Your Overall GPA, the one used for academic standing, graduation and graduation with distinction, counts every OSU and transfer course with a recorded grade. Your transcript also shows a Total Institution GPA (OSU courses only), a Total Transfer GPA, and after each OSU term a cumulative GPA of OSU courses only. All transfer courses go on your OSU transcript, but transfer grades of I, W, AW, S, U, P, NP, N and X don’t count, nor do developmental or audited courses. Credit from four-year schools applies as if earned at OSU; community college credit meets lower-division requirements only, and at least 60 hours must come from a senior college. At least 30 hours must be earned at OSU. To transfer in, you need a 2.25 transfer GPA with 7–59 hours (and with 7–23 hours, the freshman requirements too) or a 2.00 with 60 or more. Rule
The Registrar calculates your GPA to three decimals, rounded at the third, and GPA requirements use that exact figure: a 2.699 stays 2.699 and doesn’t meet a 2.700 line. For graduation with distinction, the catalog takes the GPA to two decimal places only, so a 3.69785 counts as 3.69 and misses cum laude. The calculator never rounds up either: it cuts the GPA to two decimals, so 3.699 shows as 3.69.

What it means
Also required
1.70 overall (0–30 hours attempted) or 2.00 (31 or more)
Good academic standing; below it, probation
Below the line you’re on probation for one semester, and to continue you need a 2.00 term GPA (not counting physical education activity or developmental courses) or the overall minimum. Colleges and programs may set higher standards. Full rule
1.70 to under 2.00 overall (30 or fewer hours)
Academic notice (first-year students)
Applies to first-year students who are above the probation line but under 2.00. Full rule
Under 2.00 term GPA while on probation, with the overall GPA under the standing line
Academic suspension
You sit out one fall or spring semester unless the faculty appeals committee reinstates you. After a first suspension at the end of spring, you can stay for summer with at least six hours and a 2.00 summer GPA (or the overall standard). With 90 or more hours you may be allowed up to 15 more hours, keeping a 2.00 term GPA each term or reaching a 2.00 overall. Full rule
2.00 overall, plus 2.00 in your major or minor
Minimum GPA to graduate
The overall figure leaves out repeated, reprieved, developmental and physical education activity courses. Full rule
4.00 term GPA
President’s List of Distinguished Students
Full-time, with at least 12 earned OSU hours in a fall or spring semester. Full rule
3.50 term GPA, no grade below C
Dean’s List of Distinguished Students
The same full-time, 12-hour, fall-or-spring requirements as the President’s List. Full rule
3.70–3.79 / 3.80–3.89 / 3.90–4.00
Cum laude / magna cum laude / summa cum laude
Based on your final overall GPA, taken to two decimals only (a 3.69785 is a 3.69), and added to your diploma and transcript. Full rule
3.50 cumulative GPA at graduation
Honors College Degree
You also need both the General Honors and Departmental Honors awards and at least 30 honors credit hours. Full rule
2.00 overall with no grade below C in at least 12 hours
Academic reprieve or academic renewal
Reprieve removes one semester or two consecutive ones from your overall GPA, needs extenuating circumstances, and the 2.00 is on work since that term. Renewal removes all courses before a date you choose. Either needs three years since the work, and you get only one of the two, once. Full rule
Professional Education: admission, student teaching and graduation
For students in Professional Education (teacher education): the GPA you need to be admitted, to student teach and to graduate. Full rule
3.00 overall
Seniors taking courses for graduate credit
Your overall undergraduate GPA must be at least 3.00. Full rule
2.25 transfer GPA (7–59 hours) or 2.00 (60 or more)
Transfer admission
With 7–23 hours you must also meet freshman admission requirements. Full rule
To see how far you are from one of them, enter it under “Compare with a GPA line” in the calculator, or as your target in the target GPA planner.
A worked example
Your best grade from your first four attempts counts, but every attempt after the fourth counts too. Say you take a 3-hour course five times, earning F, F, D, F and then C, alongside a 3-hour A and a 3-hour B. The D is your best of the first four, and the fifth-attempt C counts as well: (1 × 3 + 2 × 3 + 4 × 3 + 3 × 3) ÷ 12 = 30 ÷ 12 = 2.50. Had the C come within your first four attempts, only the C would count: (2 × 3 + 4 × 3 + 3 × 3) ÷ 9 = 3.00.
The calculator gives an estimate from the grades you enter. Your official GPA is the one on your Oklahoma State academic record.
For any other college, the college GPA calculator starts on the common plus/minus 4.0 points and takes your school’s own. Cumulative GPA combines terms you already have, and the GPA guide answers what a GPA means.
