Slovak grading system
In Slovakia, school grades run from 1 (best) to 5, and 4 is the lowest pass. University grades: A (best) to FX, lowest pass E.
Example · Average of 3 subjects
chválitebný (commendable)
A pass. 4 is the lowest pass.
Each subject counts the same. Add weights to count some subjects more.
Wikipedia’s US table gives letters, not points, so it cannot average these grades: check them one at a time.
School grades: 1 (best) to 5
Primary and secondary schools. An outstanding 1 is sometimes marked 1* (jednotka s hviezdičkou, a one with a star).
| Grade | On the transcript | Meaning | Pass? |

| 2 | chválitebný | commendable | Pass |
| 3 | dobrý | good | Pass |
| 4 | dostatočný | sufficient | Pass |

University grades: A (best) to FX
Bachelor's and master's courses at Slovak universities. Averages count A as 1, B as 1.5, C as 2, D as 2.5, E as 3 and FX as 4, so a lower average is better.

Slovak grades in US terms
Wikipedia’s table reads the school grades on the US scale as below. It is one convention, not a rule: each US university, or the credential evaluation service it names, makes its own conversion, so the school you apply to decides what your grades are worth.
| Slovak grade | US letter |
|---|---|
| 1 | A |
| 2 | B |
| 3 | C |
| 4 | D |
| 5 | F |
What to know about grades in Slovakia
- Slovak schools use the same five grades as Czech schools, with 1 the best and 5 the only fail.
- Every Slovak university uses the letters A to FX, but each sets its own percentage limits: the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology of the Slovak University of Technology, for example, asks 92% for an A and 56% for an E.
- Averages run the opposite way to a US GPA: the lower the average, the better.
