Azerbaijani grading system
In Azerbaijan, university grades run from A (91–100 points, best) to F (below 51 points), and E (51–60 points) is the lowest pass.
Example · Credit-weighted average of 3 courses
çox yaxşı (very good)
A pass: 81–90% of the marks. E is the lowest pass.
3 courses, 15 credits. Your institution’s own rules on rounding or cutting off decimals decide the grade on your record.
University grades: A to F, 0 to 100 points
Every Azerbaijani university, under the national standard for higher education (Cabinet of Ministers decision 75 of 23 April 2010). A course’s grade comes from the total points collected in it over the semester, out of 100.

Azerbaijani grades and a US GPA
This page gives no US equivalents for Azerbaijani grades: we found no table for them on Wikipedia or from an official source, and we do not make one up. A US university reads a foreign transcript itself or through the credential evaluation service it names, and its conversion is the one that counts.
Send your grades as they are, with the scale above. When a form asks for your average, give it on your own scale and say which scale it is: the converter’s average does exactly that, weighted by credits when you enter them.
What to know about grades in Azerbaijan
- The scale is set by the national standard for higher education, which applies to every university in Azerbaijan, state or private.
- The same 100-point scale grades coursework, exams and the final state attestation, which every student must pass to graduate.
- At Azerbaijan Technical University, exam sheets, the student’s record book and the diploma supplement show both the points and the letter.
- At Azerbaijan Technical University, missing an exam without a valid reason counts as qeyri-kafi (F), and a failed course must be taken again before its exam can be resat.
- At Azerbaijan Medical University, 50 of a course’s 100 points come from the semester’s work (attendance, independent work and class questions) and 50 from the exam.
