Bulgarian grading system
In Bulgaria, school and university grades run from 6.00 (best) to 2.00, and 3.00 is the lowest pass.
Example · Weighted average of 3 courses
много добър (mnogo dobar) (very good)
A pass. 3.00 is the lowest pass.
3 courses, weights adding up to 15. Your school’s or university’s own rules decide how the average is rounded.
Wikipedia’s US table gives letters, not points, so it cannot average these grades: check them one at a time.

Bulgarian grades in US terms
Wikipedia’s table reads the school and university grades on the US scale as below. It is one convention, not a rule: each US university, or the credential evaluation service it names, makes its own conversion, so the school you apply to decides what your grades are worth. Wikipedia matches whole grades only (6 = A down to 2 = F); each row covers the decimal range that Wikipedia's own table gives for that whole grade.
| Bulgarian grade | US letter |
|---|---|
| 6 (5.50–6.00) | A |
| 5 (4.50–5.49) | B |
| 4 (3.50–4.49) | C |
| 3 (3.00–3.49) | D |
| 2 (2.00–2.99) | F |
What to know about grades in Bulgaria
- Grades are often written with two decimals, and a grade from 5.50 up counts as excellent, so a 5.50 average is an excellent result.
- A 1 exists only as a penalty for cheating and is now rarely used, so in practice the scale runs from 2 to 6.
- Teachers sometimes add a plus or minus, worth about a quarter of a grade, but official documents record only the grade itself.
