Philippine grades and a US GPA
This page gives no US equivalents for Philippine grades: we found no table for them on Wikipedia or from an official source, and we do not make one up. A US university reads a foreign transcript itself or through the credential evaluation service it names, and its conversion is the one that counts.
Send your grades as they are, with the scale above. When a form asks for your average, give it on your own scale and say which scale it is: the converter’s average does exactly that, weighted by credits when you enter them.
What to know about grades in the Philippines
- Each university sets the percentage behind each grade point, so a 2.00 stands for 85–87% at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and 86–88% at the University of the East.
- Some universities, among them De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila and Far Eastern University, use a 4.00 scale instead, where 4.00 is the best grade and 0.00 a fail.
- The GWA (general weighted average) is the average of all grade points weighted by each course's units, and Latin honours depend on it: at the University of Santo Tomas, a GWA from 1.00 to 1.20 earns summa cum laude.
- A 4.00 is a conditional grade at universities that use it, such as the University of the Philippines, and INC marks an incomplete course.
- In DepEd schools, a general average of 90 to 94 earns With Honors, 95 to 97 With High Honors and 98 to 100 With Highest Honors.
