Uzbek grading system
In Uzbekistan, university grades run from 5 (best) to 2, and 3 is the lowest pass.
Example · Credit-weighted average of 3 courses
Between 4 and 5
yaxshi (good) or aʼlo (excellent): your institution’s rule on rounding decides which grade goes on your record. 3 is the lowest pass.
3 courses, 15 credits.
Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, National Database of Legislation (lex.uz)’s US table gives letters, not points, so it cannot average these grades: check them one at a time.
University grades: 5 to 2
Students at Uzbek higher education institutions that follow the 2018 national assessment regulation (No. 3069). Universities that run the module (credit-module) system are outside this regulation and set their own assessment rules.

Uzbek grades in US terms
Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, National Database of Legislation (lex.uz)’s table reads the university grades on the US scale as below. It is one convention, not a rule: each US university, or the credential evaluation service it names, makes its own conversion, so the school you apply to decides what your grades are worth. The regulation’s comparison table sets each Uzbek grade beside a group of US letters and prints no grade points.
| Uzbek grade | US letter |
|---|---|
| 5 | A+, A or A− |
| 4 | B+, B or B− |
| 3 | C+, C, C−, D+, D or D− |
| 2 | F |
What to know about grades in Uzbekistan
- A 2 (qoniqarsiz) in a subject’s final assessment leaves the student with an academic debt in that subject.
- A student moves up a year only with a 3, 4 or 5 in every subject of the year’s curriculum.
- A 3, 4 or 5 cannot be retaken to improve it.
- The regulation converts an average on the 5-point scale to a 100-point score by a fixed table, from 100 for 4.96–5.00 down to 60 for exactly 3.00, and an average below 3.0 is below 60.
- The regulation covers students admitted from 2018/2019 onward.
