Panamanian grades and a US GPA
This page gives no US equivalents for Panamanian grades: we found no table for them on Wikipedia or from an official source, and we do not make one up. A US university reads a foreign transcript itself or through the credential evaluation service it names, and its conversion is the one that counts.
Send your grades as they are, with the scale above. When a form asks for your average, give it on your own scale and say which scale it is: the converter’s average does exactly that, weighted by credits when you enter them.
What to know about grades in Panama
- A core course graded D must be passed again with at least a C, although the student may go on to the courses that require it.
- The career index (índice de carrera) averages the points of every course taken in the program, weighted by credits, with A worth 3, B 2, C 1, and D and F 0.
- Postgraduate programs and some faculties follow their own grading rules approved by the university's Academic Council.
- Panamanian schools grade on a scale of 1 to 5 rather than out of 100.
