Lebanese grades and a US GPA

This page gives no US equivalents for Lebanese grades: we found no table for them on Wikipedia or from an official source, and we do not make one up. A US university reads a foreign transcript itself or through the credential evaluation service it names, and its conversion is the one that counts.

Send your grades as they are, with the scale above. When a form asks for your average, give it on your own scale and say which scale it is: the converter’s average does exactly that, weighted by credits when you enter them.

What to know about grades in Lebanon

  • Schools on the Lebanese or French programme grade out of 20 with 10 as the pass mark, though some schools pass students from as low as 7.
  • Top marks are rare: in some schools 14 out of 20 is the highest essay mark, with class averages of 9 or 10.
  • The general average (moyenne générale) weights each subject by its weekly hours.
  • Universities differ: some use American letter grades, others a 0 to 100 scale with a pass mark of 60 or 70, and French-system universities the 0 to 20 scale.
  • At AUB, students who entered before fall 2019–20 have numeric grades out of 100, and every student needs a cumulative GPA of at least 2.3 to graduate.
