Ghanaian grades and a US GPA
This page gives no US equivalents for Ghanaian grades: we found no table for them on Wikipedia or from an official source, and we do not make one up. A US university reads a foreign transcript itself or through the credential evaluation service it names, and its conversion is the one that counts.
Send your grades as they are, with the scale above. When a form asks for your average, give it on your own scale and say which scale it is: the converter’s average does exactly that, weighted by credits when you enter them.
What to know about grades in Ghana
- At the University of Ghana the degree class comes from the final grade point average, in which levels 100 to 400 are weighted 1:1:2:2, so the last two years count double.
- An E (45–49%) is a failing grade, but it may still be accepted as meeting the prerequisite for a later course.
- Transcripts can also show X (fail) and Z (disqualification), both failures worth 0 points, and I (incomplete), Y (continuing) and AUDI (audit).
- For a degree place, WASSCE grades should be credits (C6 or better), above all in English language and mathematics; candidates with D7 or lower in those subjects are advised to resit.
