Mauritian grades and a US GPA

This page gives no US equivalents for Mauritian grades: we found no table for them on Wikipedia or from an official source, and we do not make one up. A US university reads a foreign transcript itself or through the credential evaluation service it names, and its conversion is the one that counts.

Send your grades as they are, with the scale above. When a form asks for your average, give it on your own scale and say which scale it is: the converter’s average does exactly that, weighted by credits when you enter them.

What to know about grades in Mauritius

  • Programmes with a 50% pass mark have no grade D, so any mark below 50 is an F.
  • The class of degree rests on the final CPA, the credit-weighted average of module marks: first class from 70, second class first division from 60, second class second division from 50, third class from 45 and a pass from 40, while programmes with a 50% pass mark stop at the second class, second division.
  • Failed modules stay in the CPA, so a fail pulls the average down.
  • A student moves on to the next year with a CPA of at least 40, or 50 in some programmes.
  • A passed resit is recorded at the minimum pass mark, and the earlier mark leaves the CPA.
